The Ivy Took Over—Because Nobody Stopped It
When we came home, I knew the yard was going to need some work.
I did not realize quite how much work.
One of the biggest problems was the ivy. It had been allowed to grow unchecked for years, climbing trees, covering the ground, and working its way through just about everything in its path.
The bigger problem, though, was the trees underneath it.
Once we started dealing with the trees, we discovered just how many were dead, dying, damaged, or simply in places where they shouldn’t have been allowed to grow unchecked. Some had been completely swallowed by ivy, making it difficult to even see what condition they were in.
So the tree removal began.
And as the trees came down, a lot of the ivy came down with them.
In some places, what looked like an enormous wall of ivy turned out to be mostly ivy-covered trees that needed to go anyway. Removing the trees opened everything up and gave us a much better idea of what we were actually dealing with.
We ended up removing a lot of trees—far more than I ever expected to be dealing with when we moved home.
Once the trees and ivy were gone, we could finally start seeing the property again.
There’s still plenty of cleanup to do, but underneath all that overgrowth, there’s actually a pretty nice yard waiting to come back.
I just wish it hadn’t taken twelve years to get to this point. 🌿🏡
