What Happens When You Give Me a Cricut?
In 2023, my friend Kat decided to sell her Cricut, and apparently I was exactly the person she needed to sell it to.
I had never owned one before, but I’ve always enjoyed designing things with new design software, so I figured it would be fun to play around with.
I started by making quotes for my fluid art pieces, but it didn’t take long before I discovered that making T-shirts was ridiculously fun.
I started designing shirts.
Then I made another design.
Then another.
And another.
Before long, I had four binders full of T-shirt designs.
Yes. Four.
At some point, I figured I should probably do something with all those designs, so I started buying T-shirts in a variety of colors and sizes. I wanted to have something for pretty much everyone when I took them to the craft markets I was selling at in Canada.
And then I kept making more designs.
Funny ones. Sarcastic ones. A few that were a little questionable. Some were inspired by things I’d heard, some just popped into my head, and some made me laugh enough that I figured somebody else might find them funny too.
The craft markets were a lot of fun, and I loved seeing people stop to read the shirts and find one that was exactly their kind of humor.
Since moving back to Oregon, I’m no longer doing regular craft markets. I still have a small booth in a hands-off variety store where I can sell some of my things, but it’s definitely a different setup than what I had in Canada.
I still have the Cricut, though.
And I still have a ridiculous number of T-shirt designs.
As it turns out, four binders full of ideas eventually led me in a slightly different direction, too.
But that’s another story. 😉
