I Knew There Was Mold the Moment I Walked In
THE FIRST CLUE WAS THE SMELL
I knew there was a problem with the house the moment I walked through the door.
I smelled mold.
Dave and Mom couldn’t smell it. But I could, and I knew that smell. It wasn’t something I was imagining, and I wasn’t about to ignore it just because nobody else could smell it.
So we had the house inspected.
The inspection confirmed what my nose had already told me: there was mold inside and out, and there were some pretty significant problems behind it.
And then came the first big storm.
That’s when the house really decided to introduce itself.
The rain was pouring down. The gutters were full and overflowing with a waterfall outside the front door. A lake started forming outside the back door, and water was making its way into the garage.

At that point, we weren’t just dealing with a house that needed some updating. We had a wet house, a mold problem and a roof that was in far worse shape than we had realized.
And this was only the beginning.
We had come home to Oregon expecting to do some repairs and settle into retirement.
Instead, we were about to discover just how much twelve years of neglect could cost us.
Welcome to the grand discovery. 🏠💧😂
